The pantry dinner is the most underrated category in family cooking. It's the dinner you make when you didn't plan, when the store is closed, when you're sick, when the week got away from you. It's the insurance policy against the nights when everything else fails.
A well-stocked pantry means you always have dinner. Not a great dinner, necessarily — but a complete, nutritious, satisfying dinner that requires no shopping and minimal effort.

The Pantry Restocking Rule
The pantry only works as an emergency resource if it's maintained. The rule: when you use the last of something, add it to the shopping list immediately.
Don't wait until you're planning the week's meals to discover you're out of canned tomatoes. The moment you open the last can, it goes on the list.
A pantry that's maintained through consistent restocking is always ready. A pantry that's depleted and not restocked fails exactly when you need it most.
